Press release: Electricity companies and the electric car industry join hands in new sector partnership

By Torben Hvidsten, 6. November 2009

On Tuesday the Danish Energy Association and 29 companies from the electric car and electricity sectors joined hands in a new sector partnership which aims to make Denmark a world leader in electric cars and strengthen cooperation between the electric car industry and the electricity companies.

- Bringing electric cars to Denmark will be a huge but necessary task. Emissions of greenhouse gases from the old petrol and diesel cars are out of control. But with electric cars, we can bring vehicle traffic within the EU’s ceiling for greenhouse gas emissions, so this cooperation between the electric car industry and the electricity companies is exactly right, says Lærke Flader, head of the new sector cooperation, which goes under the name Danish Electric Car Alliance.

- With this new partnership between electricity companies and the electric car sector we show that we are taking our task seriously, and are doing our bit as private players to get the Danes to replace their old petrol and diesel cars with electric cars, Flader says.

- But we cannot achieve our goals without understanding from politicians. The new sector partnership will therefore strengthen dialogue with the Government and Parliament, so Danes are given the right incentives to modernise the car fleet.

The Danish Electric Car Alliance will be electing its Board Chair and Deputy Chair in a couple of weeks. The Alliance will be based at the Danish Energy Association’s address in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen.
